Overview

The Allen Discovery Center conducts cutting-edge research in basic biology and biomedicine, integrating molecular genetics, biophysics, and computational methods. The Center develops technologies to modulate bioelectric communication, influencing cell coordination for applications in regenerative medicine, cancer reprogramming, birth defect repair, and synthetic biology.

Responsibilities

• Support a senior scientist in electrophysiology and cell culture experiments
• Maintain and manage cell cultures (plating, media changes, splitting, preparing stock solutions)
• Conduct traditional patch-clamp experiments
• Perform confocal imaging and related analyses
• Ensure high-quality, reproducible data
• Independently manage multiple concurrent tasks
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Basic Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, biology, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline
• 3–5 years of electrophysiology experience in academic or industrial laboratory settings

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with basic statistics, image analysis software, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop
• Experience with confocal imaging
• Highly organized, with excellent interpersonal and analytical skills
• Ability to multi-task independently and maintain research excellence

Work Environment

• May work with hazardous chemicals, human/animal tissue, and radiation
• Exposure to biological materials and specialized equipment may occur
