About the Project
If firms are involved in forced labor in the value chain, this may lead to challenges in the corporate reporting arena. These relate to reputational problems and the corporate license to operate. What are the determinants and consequences or reporting on forces labor? Certain industries have larger challenges than other industries. And for some industries, value chain reporting has been a topic for some time. For some firms this creates wicked problems – how to deal with certain fundamental human rights that must have been
Forced labor is the EU-legal term that relates to modern slavery.
In some jurisdictions, such as the UK and Australia, modern slavery reporting has been on the agenda for some years, and in European Union it appeared in the CSRD and the CSDDD. Now these directives are under pressure of severe reduction, the lack of clear legal guidance makes corporate reporting on the topic voluntary. Transparency on the topic may be important to eradicate it.
Involvement and reporting on the topic are different things, which may affect one another.This is a quantitative research proposal. The research approach may be drawn from ESG reporting research, empirical legal research or corporate governance research. The latter may relate to board characteristics. Data availability is a challenge, but useful options are available.

Duration: 5 years, depending on progress
