Residency Director, Part-Time
SUMMARY: In-person and virtual coaching, mentoring, and support of teacher residency candidates in Far Rockaway, New York. Requires twice-monthly in-person visits to 1 Charter School and 2-3 NYC Public Schools in the Far Rockaway area of New York City.
JOB EXPECTATIONS:
Coaching, mentoring, community building, and supporting NYU Teacher Residency:
- Observing in person and coaching five (5) Resident Teachers, mentoring and supporting School Based-Teaching Mentors, School Based-Residency Site Lead and interacting with School Leaders (an average of 1 hour per week in schools per resident teacher)
- Interacting, advocating and messaging with Resident Teachers to problem solve around areas of practice and support their ongoing development
- Reviewing video clips of Resident Teachers teaching and providing feedback, coaching, and assessment of teaching efficacy using the Steinhardt Learning to Teach Framework (derived from Danielson Framework for Teaching and the Framework for Equitable and Effective Teaching)
- Facilitate residents' completion of the Presentation of Resident’s Ongoing Progress (PROP). This includes meeting with residents and teaching mentors 4x to discuss their residency site progress related to specific components from the Learning to Teach Framework.
- Building an intervisitation schedule for Residents to visit other schools and classrooms
- Creating opportunities for community building for the Resident Teacher cohort
Communication:
- Sharing Resident Teacher and partner highlights and concerns with NYU Teacher Residency faculty and leadership
- Flagging and supporting Resident Teachers who may need the support of a performance improvement plan and/or additional inputs to succeed.
- Facilitating professional learning sessions for School-Based Teaching Mentors
Partnership:
- Facilitating monthly meetings with School-based partners
- Participate in the residency site community. This may include: co-leading professional development for Mentor Teachers, meetings with District partners
- Supporting with recruitment events and strategy as needed
Meetings:
- Attending and fully participating in monthly NYU Teacher Residency Faculty meetings
- Attending and serving as active participant in monthly Residency Director Professional Learning Community meetings
- Attending check-ins with Co-Directors of NYU Teacher Residency (as needed)
- Holding monthly check in meetings with individual residents to maintain progress.
Required: Strong track record of supporting the development of effective teachers and demonstrated effectiveness as a teacher. Preference will be given to candidates with 5+ years of teaching and/or working in a high opportunity school setting who can demonstrate strong professional experience in coaching and building leadership capacity in new and experienced teachers, and who are adept at developing smooth and effective communications and working relationships with Partner Schools and Districts.
Preferred: We particularly seek candidates who bring to their work an anti-racist lens and who have knowledge and understanding of teacher residencies, demonstrated experience and passion for work in complex schools, knowledge and skills to support inclusive education principles, and experience leading effective professional development. An advanced degree (Masters or doctorate) in teacher education or another related field is strongly preferred.
Start Date: June 29th, 2026
End Date: May 15th, 2027 (with possible renewal available)
Hours: 7-10 hours/week
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $72.24. This rate is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 7902.
