Position Description

The School of Education (SOE) at the University of California, Riverside (UCR) is committed to its mission to advance educational systems and practices which are driven by core values of equity, evidence, excellence, community, critical thinking, and compassion. Located in the Inland Empire, a racially and economically diverse region on Tribal lands, UCR is a land-grant public institution designated as a Hispanic-Serving, Minority-Serving, and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution. Within this context, we seek to hire part-time and/or full-time lecturers beginning in the Fall Quarter for the 2026/2027 academic year to teach an array of courses. Applicants will be selected from this pool for one year or a single quarter appointment as needed; some appointments begin in the Fall Quarter and others in winter and spring quarters. These positions are subject to the availability of funding and, depending on the circumstances, may be taught remotely. Courses may be added to this list as needed to cover one-time openings. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter and may be renewed based on need and performance. Successful applicants may have an opportunity to teach in our Summer Session's course offerings.

Academic offerings include undergraduate major and minor programs, master's programs with multiple specializations, professional preparation programs in elementary, secondary, and special education, and a doctoral program with multiple specializations. Teaching Responsibilities:

We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach in the School's undergraduate major/minor and advanced degree programs (master's and doctoral), including teacher preparation programs. The successful candidate will be skilled in effectively teaching the student body based upon the mission of the University.

General Duties/Responsibilities:

Guided by the SOE equity-focused mission, teach one or more undergraduate and/or graduate courses, depending on the need and the candidate's experience and availability. Duties will include full responsibility for mission-driven course preparation and presentation, including but not limited to, lectures, preparation and grading of exams, office hours outside of class, advising students, and supervision of teaching assistants or readers if assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic qualifications (required before the start of the appointment)

  • For courses that fulfill the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) teacher education requirements - An advanced degree or a Master's degree and a minimum of five years of demonstrated teaching experience in Education or a related field.
  • For all other courses - An advanced degree or a Master's degree and a minimum of three years of demonstrated teaching experience in Education or a related field.

Preferred qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field.
  • Minimum of one quarter/semester of teaching experience at the college level.
  • Expertise in teaching a diverse student body in responsive and sustaining ways.

Service Dates:

Fall Quarter: September 21 - December 11, 2026
Winter Quarter: January 4 - March 19, 2027
Spring Quarter: March 24 - June 11, 2027
Summer Quarter: Beginning June 21, 2027

Salary:

See table 15 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $70,977 (full-time annual base rate) for a person with a master's degree or $82,894 for a person with a doctoral degree, prorated according to appointment percentage.

For advancement information for Lecturers, please refer to the (IX) systemwide bargaining unit contract for the Non-Senate Academic Instructional Lecturer, Unit 18 between the University of California and the American Federation of Teachers.   • Teaching Evaluation(s) or Letter of Recommendation from an individual who can attest to your teaching effectiveness.
  • Please also complete the survey at Survey for Potential Lecturers to indicate the course(s) you have an interest in teaching in each term.
  • 3 letters of reference are required.
