Rickett Library Manager/Librarian III

Under the direction of the Dean of University Libraries, provides oversight to the Rickett Library and guides the development of supervised personnel. Position is located on-site at the Fort Worth campus. Holiday, evening and/or weekend duties are required. Schedule is determined based on hours of operation and peer availability.

Responsibilities

  • 40% Primary responsibility for planning, coordination, and administration of the Rickett Library, including the service units and operations of the library. Duties include: Coordinating with the Vice President of External Operations & Dean of Fort Worth and the Dean of University Libraries to ensure operation, services, and resources meet the needs of Tarleton Fort Worth; Monitoring, directing, and evaluating the work of Rickett personnel; Maintaining communication with all library staff; Working with direct reports to coordinate recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff; Establishing and evaluating workflow patterns; Collaborating with the Dean of University Libraries and library leadership in the development and execution of strategic plans; Guiding the strategic planning of short- and long-range goals; Making budget recommendations and monitoring expenditure; Ensuring the timely compilation and analysis of statistics; Maintaining knowledge of current and emerging trends in user and public services, outreach, library technologies, and research tools and resources.
  • 30% Programming & Outreach: Responsible for programming and outreach primarily to the Rickett communities. Developing and implementing outreach activities; Organizing events/programs; Leading the team in designing publications; Representing the library at student orientations and other campus events.
  • 30% Professional Librarian: Serve the community using expertise in reference, instruction, liaison, and professional duties. Reference: Provide reference services, develop and deliver training, staff services, provide point-of-use instruction. Instruction: Actively solicit, create and teach library instruction, provide bibliographic instruction, prepare instructional materials. Subject Liaison: Serve as liaison to academic departments, work on collection development. Professional: Recommend policy changes, develop ideas for promotion, work within teams, assist in covering service points, attend professional meetings, maintain professional demeanor, serve on university committees.

Required Education and Experience:

ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science or international equivalent required; Four years of experience in college or university library; including two years of experience working as a librarian.

Preferred qualifications:

1-2 years of experience supervising preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications; Knowledge of automated library systems; Excellent interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and research skills; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others; Ability to work independently, as a team member, and as a team leader.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary: Commensurate with experience. The target base annual salary range is $59,004 to $78,672. Various educational benefits, health insurance, retirement programs, paid leave, and other perks are available.
