RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator - Orthopedic Surgery
Position Summary
The Orthopedic Spine Nurse Coordinator is an integral member of the interdisciplinary Orthopedic Spine team and works in the outpatient clinical setting at the Center for Advanced Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. WashU Orthopedics Spine Surgery clinical care is delivered Monday through Friday.
The Spine Nurse Coordinator facilitates multidisciplinary care for spine patients from adolescence through adulthood, with a focus on exceptional care, patient experience, access, throughput, and clinical outcomes. This role supports patients through the full continuum of care, including new patient evaluation, treatment planning, surgical preparation, postoperative follow-up, ongoing patient communication, and lead coordination for Orthopedics and the Spine Tumor Board.
The Spine Nurse Coordinator improves patient preparedness for treatment through education, review of clinical needs, coordination of next steps, and support while facilitating communication between patients, their physician team, APPs, referrals, scheduling, and other members of the care team. The Nurse Coordinator also works closely with Spine leadership and physician teams to ensure patients receive comprehensive, timely, and patient-centered care.
Coordinates the care of patients for a designated service throughout the continuum of care; serves as a clinical resource in area of specialty or expertise.

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
The Spine Nurse Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating clinical care and communication for the spine practice, including:
- Supporting preoperative, postoperative, and follow-up patient needs.
- Providing patient and family education to improve preparedness for treatment and surgery.
- Coordinating patient communication through phone calls, MyChart messages, and internal team communication.
- Reviewing and triaging clinical concerns in collaboration with the provider and APP team.
- Assisting with surgical planning, imaging coordination, referrals, and follow-up needs.
- Helping prepare patients and families for clinic visits, procedures, surgery, and next steps in care.
- Providing lead coordination for Orthopedics and the Spine Tumor Board, including preparation, documentation, communication, and follow-through.
- Collaborating with scheduling, medical assistants, APPs, physicians, and leadership to ensure timely completion of patient care tasks.
- Maintaining clear, accurate, and timely documentation in Epic.
- Supporting improved patient access, clinic flow, and throughput.
