Overview

In 1971, Yale University established Yale Health to provide health services to its facility, staff and students through a multidisciplinary health maintenance organization located on campus. Yale Health has more than 49,000 members including students, staff, faculty and their families who come from every state in the country and almost every country in the world. With over 50 years of service to the Yale community, our state-of-the-art facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150+ providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, an Acute Care Department, a 15-bed inpatient facility with two negative pressure rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy.

The Specialty Care Team Nurse - Dermatology/Allergy, assumes responsibility for triage, assessment, care-coordination, follow up and transitional care, clinical evaluation and clinical decision making for the assigned population and unit. Assumes responsibility for prioritization of care and disposition of patients from both telephonic encounters as well as scheduled and unscheduled encounters. Compliance with nursing principles, medication safety and adherence to scope of practice is a fundamental expectation. The Clinical Nurse utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation while caring for our patient's maintaining confidentiality and dignity. The Clinical Nurse provides safe, effective evidenced based care tailored to the individual needs of the patient and family. As a core member of the care delivery team, the Clinical Nurse partners with the team to facilitate the coordination of patient care at the unit level utilizing the principles of patient/family centered care. Ensures clinical policies and procedures are consistently followed, initiates new policy when appropriate. Role includes initiatives and services that support organizational and strategic goals. RN role serves to support clinicians and all members of the care team to prioritize and anticipate patient care needs. Fosters ongoing improvements of service and a culture that prioritizes safety. Role requires the ability to interface with key clinical partners, ability to make difficult decisions and facilitate resolution.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team to support the work of the team, unit activities, and the accomplishment of positive patient outcomes.
  • Delegates responsibilities to appropriate members of the care delivery team based upon an understanding of others' roles, scope of practice, knowledge, and capabilities to ensure optimal utilization of personnel.
  • Contributes to a positive work environment by being responsive to the need for change.
  • Maintains a collaborative work relationship with staff members through respect and recognition of cultural and human diversity.
  • Successfully completes the competency-based orientation within designated time frame. Identifies self-learning needs and actively participates in meeting them in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Sets and achieves professional goals.
  • Delivers excellence in patient care through compliance with all patient safety and regulatory initiatives.
  • Communicates in a calm professional manner with patients, families, colleagues, members of the care team, and other hospital personnel, accepts and elicits feedback, and works toward resolving problems and clarifying issues and concerns.
  • Uses resources in a fiscally sound manner.
  • Compliance with University, State and federal healthcare regulations.

Schedule/Shift:

Part-time, 30 hours, four days a week, between 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. Early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays/recess may also be required.

Required Skills and Abilities

  1. Previous nursing experience with demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize using the nursing process in a high volume out-patient environment.
  2. Competent clinical triage skills and critical thinking skills.
  3. Evidence of maintenance of professional skill and competency, attendance at educational programs such as seminars and workshops that are appropriate to the field.
  4. Active membership in professional organizations. Current CPR.
  5. Outstanding interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and excellent written skills.
  6. Computer proficiency as it relates to the use of an EMR. EKG interpretation skills preferred for some specialties.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated experience in an in-patient hospital unit in relevant specialty. Experience of at least one year in a medical/surgical unit, ambulatory care, primary care (sub-acute facility) or a college health center. Dermatology and/or Allergy RN experience preferred.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Required License(s) or Certification(s)

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut or Connecticut license eligible.

Physical Requirements

May require prolonged standing, walking, use of sight, hearing and touch, moving/lifting patients of varying weights. Requires keyboard use and ability to sit in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.

Salary Range

$65,000.00 - $101,000.00
