The University of Canterbury is looking for a Robotic Process Automation Developer to help transform the way we work by designing and delivering innovative automation and process improvement solutions that enhance the experience of our staff and students.

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

As a key member of our Process Improvement team, you will design, build, test, deploy and support Robotic Process Automations (RPA) that streamline operations across the University. Working closely with subject matter experts, you will translate business requirements into scalable, resilient and maintainable solutions that increase efficiency, accuracy, and productivity.

This is a hands-on role where you will take technical responsibility across the full development lifecycle — from analysing business processes and designing solutions through to deployment, optimisation, and ongoing support.

What you will be doing

  • Designing and delivering automation solutions that improve business processes across the University
  • Analysing workflows and identifying opportunities for automation and AI integration
  • Building and deploying RPA solutions using UiPath and/or Microsoft Power Platform
  • Ensuring robust exception handling, monitoring, and performance optimisation
  • Supporting user acceptance testing and delivering well-documented solutions
  • Troubleshooting live automations and driving continuous improvement
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders and collaborating with Digital Services and other teams.

Mōu | Who You Are

You will have strong technical capability combined with an analytical and collaborative mindset and be able to demonstrate:

  • At least 4 years’ experience working with RPA platforms (preferably UiPath or Microsoft Power Platform)
  • Strong workflow design and automation development skills
  • Experience with C#, Visual Basic .NET, or similar scripting/programming languages
  • Experience working with APIs, integrations, and data manipulation
  • Strong debugging, testing, and optimisation skills
  • Knowledge of IT security principles such as credential management and access controls
  • Experience with cloud services or AI-enabled automation will be an advantage
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills

You will join a small, cohesive team of process improvement and automation specialists who are passionate about enhancing the experience of staff and students at UC. Working closely with Digital Services and a wide range of teams across the University, you will help design and deliver scalable, fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
