About the Job
The successful candidate will be directly involved in studies aimed at understanding spinal cord pain processing as we seek to discover and validate novel targets for the development of non-opioid, non-addictive analgesics.
Job Duties
- 70% - Research: work collaboratively and independently on data production (molecular biology, biochemistry techniques, cell culture and in vivo animal experiments), recording, analysis, and publication of specific research projects
- 10% - General laboratory management and animal colony: ensure ordering of supplies and reagents are completed on time, general laboratory maintenance of certification and compliance (e.g., BSC certification, maintain lab safety training records, eye washes), ensure compliance with animal care, animal breeding to meet research demands, ensure mouse genetic lines are confirmed and maintained over time.
- 10% - Data management, monitoring and professional development: help oversee the organization, storage, and backup of datasets, work collaboratively in developing research ideas and drafting grant proposals.
- 10% - Mentorship/training: serve as a subject matter expert in the mentorship and training of students and staff.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• advanced degree in pharmacology or a closely related field
• at least one year of research training
Preferred qualifications include:
• A PhD in pharmacology, or a closely related field
• Three years of additional research training
• Demonstrated productivity through previous publications and grant writing/applications
• Prior experience with animal pain behavior studies, animal surgery, calcium imaging, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, and cell culture.
• Evidence of research mentoring of graduate or undergraduate students is highly desirable
About the Department
The CVM’s Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department advances veterinary medicine through clinical education and mentoring, specialized care of companion animals, and generating new knowledge through clinical research.
- Teaching
- Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members are responsible for a significant portion of the clinical training program for third- and fourth-year veterinary students, as well as small animal internship and residency programs. Faculty members also participate in the veterinary medicine and comparative and molecular biosciences graduate programs.
- Research
- Faculty and staff are actively involved in clinical and basic research, as well as specialized programs. Research efforts are supported by the Clinical Investigation Center, which coordinates clinical trials.
- Service and Outreach
- Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members provide collaborative clinical services in the Veterinary Medical Center using cutting-edge equipment and offer consultations and continuing education programs for practicing veterinarians in the community.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $61,000 to $75,000 ; depending on education/qualifications/experience
Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
