Safer Community Advisor

About the Role

The Safer Community Advisor is responsible for managing the intake, triage, assessment, investigation, and risk management of concerning behaviours referred to the Safer Community service. Safer Community acts as the central point for enquiries, reporting, assessment, and coordination of responses to behaviours including, but not limited to, gender-based violence (such as sexual harassment and assault, domestic and family violence), discrimination, intimidation, threats, violence, and child safety matters that affect students.

The Safer Community Advisor works closely with other Safer Community staff to assess, respond to and investigate reports, ensuring trauma-informed support, risk mitigation actions, and referral pathways are implemented and procedural fairness principles are upheld. The role also contributes to the development and delivery of prevention and promotion initiatives aimed at raising awareness and reducing instances of inappropriate, concerning, or threatening behaviours across the university community.

About You

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including managing persons in crisis and those who are highly emotional, aggressive or suicidal
  • Highly developed report-writing and presentation skills and proven ability to communicate effectively to a broad range of individuals and groups from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to being sensitive, analytical and flexible in case formulation and liaison between persons of concern, targets of risk or harm, and a variety of internal (staff and educators) and external stakeholders (e.g., Police, frontline services).

Qualifications

Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in areas of social work, psychology, legal, public health, or related disciplines
