Job Title
Safety Officer
Essential Job Functions
- Performs security checks of residential facilities and identifies potential safety hazards
- Enforces Housing policies
- Supports Residential Life staff during the assigned shift when requested or special needs arise
- Patrols surrounding parking areas to help ensure the safety of students, staff and guests going to and from their vehicles
- Secures residents’ doors and provides lock-out assistance
- Conducts preliminary investigations in collaboration with the Alcorn State Campus Police
- Requests proper identification on everyone entering Residence Hall facilities
- Makes reports to Residential Life management staff on security violations
- Reports all suspicious activity to the Residential Life management staff
- Provides written reports when required
- Other related duties, as assigned
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or its equivalent is required. Some college credits preferred
- One (1) year related experience preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to campus and residence hall safety
- Knowledge of security operations, procedures, and best practices
- Good communication skills, verbal, written, and interpersonal
- Good organizational and critical thinking skills
- Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions under pressure
- Ability to follow complex instructions
- Ability to understand and be sensitive to the diverse backgrounds of students
