Job Summary

The San Miguel County Early Childhood Coalition promotes access to high quality, culturally responsive care and education for families with children zero to five years old in San Miguel County. This work will be facilitated by expanding and aligning existing services in our community to enhance early childhood education including infant mental health, social emotional well-being, healthy growth and development, family engagement and empowerment, community resources, and support for early childhood professionals.

The San Miguel County Early Childhood Coalition (SMCEDD) is seeking a Coordinator to organize and lead community efforts to improve outcomes for children and families from prenatal to five years old. Coordination requires active solicitation and listening to community voices, data collection, and data interpretation to identify challenges for local families. Collaborating and building partnerships with local statewide resources to support families and leveraging these resources to enhance services and opportunities for families, will be expected. The Coordinator will work directly with the State of New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) to fulfill a professional services contract that includes compliance with an annual scope of work. This is a grant funded position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with ECECD, ensure that required deliverables are completed and documented;
  • Provide organizational support to the Early Childhood Coalition (county-wide in San Miguel County);
  • In partnership with the SMCECC, reference and update the county-wide Early Childhood Needs Assessment 2022, Strategic and Evaluation Plan 2023 - 2026, and the SMCECC Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Learning and Teaching, the Fiscal Agent to monitor budget and required documentation;
  • Attend required ECECD Meetings and convenings that may require travel and overnight stays;
  • Increase parent and provider awareness of available early childhood services;
  • Increase community awareness of the importance of high-quality culturally competent early childhood education;
  • Work directly with families and community stakeholders to bridge gaps in services and knowledge;
  • Organize and facilitate early childhood training opportunities for families, educators, and community members;
  • Work diplomatically with city and county officials to organize local events and maintain working relationships;
  • Complete professional development and workshops for Continued Education in the latest developments in early childhood;
  • Organize and facilitate early childhood training opportunities for families, educators, and community members;
  • Engage in local and state advocacy efforts that align with the SMCECC Strategic Plans and Needs Assessments;
  • Maintain coalition office and storage spaces, inventory and resource materials, and
  • Duties and responsibilities are subject to change based on grant requirements and community needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, either completed or in progress, in Early Childhood Education, Education Community/Regional Planning, Public Health, Public Policy, Social Work, Family and Child Studies, or equivalent interdisciplinary degree;
  • OR
  • Associate Degree with 3+ years of experience in educational and community settings;
  • OR
  • Experience can include but is not limited to licensed home childcare, community organizing, event planning, certified home visiting, or other certified paraprofessionals.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred background and knowledge:

  • History of living and working in San Miguel County and familiarity with key organizational stakeholders;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to utilize in building relationships with stakeholders;
  • Proven community organizing competencies, including shared and collaborative leadership in diverse communities;
  • Understanding of social determinants of health and adverse childhood experiences, and
  • Reliable transportation.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), management of Social Media Accounts, and technology skills;
  • Capacity for data collection and interpretation;
  • Ability to collaborate and build partnerships;
  • Advanced organizational skills, and
  • Capacity to manage grant funding/requirements.
