Scholarship: Ukrainian Research Fellowship Programme (URFP) for Visiting Researchers at CBEES and Södertörn University - Spring 2026
Södertörn University is a higher education institution in Stockholm that conducts education, research, and collaboration for sustainable societal development. We have around 14,000 students, 80 programmes and 300 courses, and we conduct education and research in the humanities, social sciences, technology and natural sciences. The university also offers police education and teacher education with an intercultural profile. A great deal of our research relates to the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe. We combine subjects, perspectives, people and experiences, and are worldminded, curious and questioning, searching for surprising syntheses, challenges and development.
The Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) is tasked with stimulating and developing Södertörn University’s multidisciplinary research and doctoral (third-cycle) education with a focus on the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe. CBEES’ objective is to increase the national and international impact of Baltic and Eastern European research from Södertörn University, as well as achieve recognition of the university’s status as a knowledge hub. CBEES is a point of contact, not just within the university but also for other research environments and the surrounding community. CBEES organises regular seminars, international conferences, summer schools, lectures, workshops, doctoral student meetings, and courses, and it publishes the Baltic Worlds journal. The research centre has professors, visiting researchers, postdocs, doctoral students and research coordinators. The working language at CBEES is English.
We are now welcoming applications for six scholarships for visiting Ukrainian researchers with a placement at CBEES or another department/centre/unit at Södertörn University. This fellowship programme is specifically tailored for lecturers and professors currently residing and working on-site at Higher Education Institutions or research institutes in Ukraine. While we deeply value the contributions of Ukrainian researchers abroad, this particular programme is designed to support those currently based in Ukraine.
We welcome applications especially from colleagues within social science, the humanities, teacher education, and environmental science. As the fellowship is closely aligned with Södertörn University’s current research profiles, we are only able to consider applications from colleagues within these academic fields.
Placement and activity
During the temporary placement at Södertörn University, the visiting researchers are expected to expand their academic networks and actively participate in the research environment at the University. The programme participants are required to be present on-site and in person throughout the duration of their placement. The researchers granted the scholarship are expected to work on-site at Södertörn University.
