About the Role

At Curtin University, we are committed to supporting students to succeed through accessible financial assistance programs, equitable assessment processes, and exceptional service delivery. We are seeking a highly organised and customer-focused Scholarships Support Officer to support the administration of the Commonwealth Prac Payment program.

The Commonwealth Prac Payment is an Australian Government initiative that provides financial support to eligible students undertaking mandatory placements as part of their studies. The Payment aims to reduce financial barriers that may impact placement participation and academic success.

In this role, you will assist students through the application and payment process, provide timely advice and support, and help ensure the smooth delivery of scholarship and government-funded payment services. A key component of the role involves assessing applications from students experiencing financial hardship and applying means-tested eligibility criteria in a fair, consistent, and equitable manner.

The successful candidate will demonstrate empathy, sound judgement, and a commitment to supporting diverse student cohorts through transparent and student-centred processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality customer service and accurate advice to current students
  • Process and assess student applications in line with established guidelines and KPIs
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records across university systems
  • Assist with student account creation and payment processing
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders including academic staff, Financial Services, and support teams
  • Contribute to a collaborative and student-centred team environment

About You:

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced administrative environment and enjoys helping students navigate important support services.

To be successful, you will demonstrate:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong cross-cultural awareness
  • A customer-focused approach with the ability to handle enquiries professionally and tactfully
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team

Desirable

  • Experience administering scholarships, sponsorships, or government support programs
  • Experience within a tertiary education environment

Role Requirements

  1. As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
  2. Successful applicants may be subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.

Student Services

Student Services is the student administration centre of Curtin University, providing and coordinating administrative services to support both staff and students. Under the Student Management work area, the Scholarships Office ensures the University selects the best students for its courses in an equitable, accountable and transparent manner.
