Job Summary

Our unit is comprised of specialist teams that provide dedicated people and organisation management expertise and service to our organisation, enabling our staff to lead, conduct and support world class, innovative and impact focused teaching and research.

In joining the UTS People Unit, you will be a part of a collaborative, supportive and collegial group of experienced HR professionals who are comfortable pivoting and assisting where needed in order to support one another to best service our academic and professional staff. Detailed Description

About the role

At UTS, the Health Safety and Wellbeing of our staff and students is integral to achieving our 2027 vision. The Head of Health Safety and Wellbeing is responsible for providing strategic advice and direction to the development of effective health, safety and wellbeing practices for staff (including affiliates, contractors and visitors) and students across UTS, in alignment with the UTS Strategic Priorities and government and legislative mandates.

The Head of Health Safety and Wellbeing leads a team of Health Safety and Wellbeing professionals to give effect to the University’s strong commitment to its Health Safety and Wellbeing culture - to proactively develop and implement innovative plans and strategies aimed at systemic culture change and the adoption of safe work and study practices.

The Head of Health Safety and Wellbeing collaborates with and influences UTS Senior Leaders and Managers to establish practical Health and Safety systems and solutions that address a broad range of activities (eg chemical safety, diving, manual handling and robotic interaction with people) so that UTS meets its Health and Safety obligations and delivers on its strategy.

About you

We are looking for people who, like us, are fundamentally committed to working collaboratively.

As the ideal candidate, you will also have:

• Extensive knowledge of Health, Safety and Wellbeing best practice, workers’ compensation and the interrelations with employee relations, culture and employment brand

• Demonstrated experience in the establishment, development, and monitoring of Health, Safety and Wellbeing management systems

• Demonstrated success in leading a team to deliver strategic initiatives

• Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic environment

• Strong knowledge of physical, technical and psychosocial safety

The UTS People Unit are currently working in a hybrid capacity, with the opportunity to work both in office (on campus) and from home.

As part of the HSW team, you'll join a team comprised of collaborative, experienced and dedicated HSW professionals. With a competitive salary package, 17% superannuation in addition to base salary, generous leave benefits, a full time 35 hour working week and salary packaging opportunities: we’re committed to ensuring our people feel valued.

Our Ultimo campus is conveniently located within walking distance from Central Station and bus services.

This appointment will be made on a full-time, permanent basis.
