"School of Social Work Lecturer Pool 2025-2026"

Description

The School of Social Work in the College of Health and Human Services at San Diego State University is accepting applications for their part-time lecturer pool.

We welcome applications from prospective temporary faculty with expertise or experience in the following areas:

• Social Work Direct/Clinical Practice (including motivational interviewing and other treatment modalities)
• Social Work Administration Macro Practice (including policy, administration, management, organizations and community development)
• Social Work Research and Evaluation
• Social Work: Health, Mental/Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Addiction
• Children, Youth, Families
• Gerontology, Aging, Older Adults

Temporary appointments may be either full- or part-time. Appointments from the part-time pool are often made just prior to the start of the academic term, so applicants must be available on very short notice. The Fall term begins mid-August and end late-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. Initial appointments are typically one semester or one academic year, to be renewed contingent on satisfactory evaluations and continuing availability of work. Applications will remain in our applicant pool during the academic year you apply.

Qualifications

Criteria

• Graduate degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited MSW program required for teaching social work practice courses and highly preferred for other teaching areas
• At least two years of post-Masters related experience
• Demonstrated currency in subject matter
• University teaching experience preferred

We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups.

1. Teaching Approach and Inclusivity: Describe how your teaching philosophy and practices support student learning and engagement. How do you create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that fosters success for students from different backgrounds and experiences?
2. Research and Broader Impact: How does your research contribute to your field, and how do you envision it making a broader impact-whether through interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, or addressing societal challenges?
3. Mentorship and Academic Community: Describe your approach to mentorship and professional development for students and colleagues. How do you contribute to a vibrant, collaborative, and supportive academic community?

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring school. Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range.

As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
• Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
• Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
• Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
