About the Team
Genetic Counsellors play a vital role in helping people to understand their family history, make informed decisions about genetic and genomic testing, understand the results and adjust to or manage the outcomes and implications. Recent advances in genetic and genomic testing have enormous potential to guide the management of inherited disease and assist with early diagnosis and targeted treatment, resulting in many new opportunities for genetic counsellors.
Detailed Description
About the Role
The Research Assistant role is established specifically to provide research assistance to a funded project entitled Enhancing Genomic Testing Pathology Orders: A Digital Decision Support Tool Project.
This project will use a transdisciplinary approach combining implementation science, complexity science, computer science and artificial intelligence, clinical genomics, health services and patient experience research, and genomics ethics research to develop and test a digital decision support tool.
If successful in applying for this role, you will be responsible for:
• Working with research team to develop and conduct a program of research to contribute to progress and outcomes against the Department of Health grant.
• Assisting in participant recruitment and data collection according to study protocols (e.g., organizing focus groups, conducting interviews).
• Assisting in research that involves best practice around ordering genetic testing and national healthcare systems.
• Establishing and developing productive collaborative research activity internally with colleagues in the discipline, School and University and externally with other broader based research partners, particularly those working on the same Department of Health-funded project.
• Developing and enhancing personal scholarly standing, through activities such as attendance at internal research meetings, conference presentations and attendance on a continuing basis.
• Representing UTS to the wider community by fostering, promoting and developing links with industry, government, academic and professional bodies.
• Following specific health and safety procedures as directed.
• Participating in the Work Plan and Performance Review processes of the University.

1. Ability to conduct aspects of a program of research
2. Strong verbal and written communication skills
3. Demonstrated knowledge of genetics and genetic testing
4. Interest in future developments in areas relevant to genetic testing and their integration into health care systems
5. Experience working as a Genetic Counsellor in the Australian healthcare system is highly desirable
Remumeration/Salary
Remuneration & Benefits
Base Salary Range: $80,044 to $91,570 pa (HEW 5)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is part time (FTE 0.5, 2.5 days per week) and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 24 months.
