This position directly supports the technology needs of Brown University's Department of Public Safety, a sworn, fully-functioning law enforcement agency operating 24/7 to protect and serve the Brown community.
The Senior Application Administrator within the OIT Public Safety Applications team will serve as a senior position supporting all of the Public safety applications, including but not limited to Brown's access control system (CCure 9000), video security (Genetec), Zetron Communication Solution, Dispatch & Records Management (currently IMC), NICE 911 Voice & Radio Recording Suite, and the RILETS (Rhode Island Law Enforcement Telecommunications System). Responsibilities will include application administration, end user application support, & end user application training for all of the Department of Public Safety's applications. The Senior Application Administrator will develop and maintain a fundamental understanding of how to utilize all Public Safety applications from an end-user perspective, in addition to application administration responsibilities. This is critical for end-user application support, application administration, & end-user application training success.
The Senior Application Administrator will participate in and support all upgrades, application and security patches, etc. and will coordinate all aspects of testing, documentation, and training of end users. The Senior Application Administrator will help the team participate in all aspects of change management. The position will participate in cross training with fellow team members to ensure the team has adequate backup for all applications supported.
In coordination with the Manager of Public Safety Applications, this position will ensure all Public Safety applications, systems, and technologies within purview are implemented, administered, and maintained to meet Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) requirements along with FBI, RI State Police, and Brown security requirements. Exceptions for applications not meeting these requirements must be reviewed with and approved by the Manager of Public Safety Applications.
Position Classification:
This position will be eligible to work a hybrid or remote schedule.
Position Location & Typically Work Schedule:
Core Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Flexibility in schedule and hours is required occasionally; including days, nights, and weekends. This is dependent upon break/fix, site walks, on-site projects, University Campus events, and business needs of the department.
On-Call Requirements:
This position will participate in an OIT Public Safety Applications team on-call rotation schedule which is dedicated to the support of the university's Department of Public Safety. The OIT Public Safety Applications team on-call consists of answering basic Tier-1 support calls from the Department of Public Safety and performing basic troubleshooting via the on-call Standard Operating Procedure. Tier-2 & Tier-3 issues may need to be escalated within the OIT Public Safety Applications team or to other OIT Teams including the Public Safety Technology team. In some cases, the OIT Public Safety Applications team on-call team-member may be the same person assigned to handle the Tier-2 & Tier-3 issue type within the team. While on-call, one must be available to answer calls/emails after normal working hours and on weekends/holidays depending on the rotation order.
CJIS Requirements:
This position is subject to Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) requirements. Due to the confidential, sensitive nature of information this position may encounter, applicants must be willing to allow for a Background Investigation initiated by Brown Public Safety.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 3+ years of experience with enterprise-level business application support or administration
- Lead experience preferred
The following experience is preferred:
- Administration of Public Safety or Enterprise Applications & Systems
- Security Systems Application Administration
- SQL Queries; including writing queries and joining databases
- SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services); writing reports & supporting SSRS
- Active Directory Security Group Administration
- Group Policy Administration
The following application support or administration experience or equivalent is preferred:
- Software House - CCURE9000
- VMS Systems such as Genetec Security Center
- Central Square IMC
- NICE 911 Recording Suite
- Zetron Communication Solution
- SQL Server Reporting Services
- Wowza Media Service & TheoPlayer Cloud
- The following certifications preferred:
- Software House - CCURE9000 Certified
- Genetec - Genetec Security Center Certified
- Strong application support/administration abilities to troubleshoot, support, and maintain critical application suites/software components supporting a 24x7 operation.
- Strong problem solving skills, organizational skills, and project planning skills
- Working knowledge of databases and SQL Queries
- Troubleshooting skills for problem resolution
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking
- Knowledge of IT change management processes
- Excellent customer service skills; strong commitment to customer service
- Strong computing, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a group and as a member of a project team
- Excellent coordination, collaboration, writing, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities
- Ability to work through problems and find solutions
- Experience with Google Suite
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office applications
- Higher education experience preferred
Successful completion of a criminal background check and education verification is required.
