What will you be doing in this role:

The Senior BMET (Biomedical Equipment Technician) performs complex level troubleshooting, repair, and periodic maintenance of medical instrumentation and clinical networked systems; demonstrates the use of medical equipment systems to Clinical Engineering staff and clinicians; acts as a technical resource for the evaluation and interfacing of medical equipment systems; assists staff members in troubleshooting situations; serves in on-call rotation. 

  • Adjusts, calibrates, lubricates, performs operational verification, tests electrical safety, and other tasks to ensure efficient performance and safety of complex medical equipment.
  • Maintains an accurate and complete inventory of medical devices and systems in assigned areas.
  • Communicates clearly with users in patient care areas during rounds or while investigating reported malfunctions; provides impromptu technical in-services to clinical staff when needed.
  • Participates in pre-purchase of equipment and technology evaluations, and provides recommendations on equipment replacement.
  • Analyzes serviceability, reliability, and technical aspects of equipment.
  • Makes recommendations for maintenance and training protocols.
  • Using engineering methodology, transfers working knowledge and understanding of electronic circuitry and medical applications from one type of instrumentation to another.
  • Schedules and documents work performed as directed by the department.
  • Reviews and/or orders parts and materials so as to insure right items are ordered at right time from the most effective source and that prudent stock levels are maintained.
  • Helps with reviewing service options for major clinical systems with system owners to determine optimum service plan (i.e., in-house, vendor contract, vendor time and materials).

Onsite Monday-Friday, 8-Hour Day Shift

Qualifications

Experience Requirements:

Four (4) plus year experience as biomedical electronics technician and familiarity with a limited but growing range of patient care and/or laboratory equipment, 5+ years experience preferred.

Knowledge of wired and wireless networks related to the medical devices.

Demonstrates the ability to understand and use basic biomedical test equipment.

Demonstrates a basic level of electronics knowledge and troubleshooting skills.

Demonstrates an understanding of the operation and service routines for basic clinical electronic equipment.

Educational/Certification Requirements:

High School Diploma/GED Required.

Biomedical Technology Diploma from accredited program required.

Associate’s Degree in Electronic Engineering, Biomedical Electronics, or related field. (preferred)

C.B.E.T. Certification and/or specialty biomedical skill such as Imaging or Anesthesia equipment preferred.
