Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

At Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury (UC), connectivity is more than infrastructure — it’s what enables learning, research breakthroughs, student experience, and the day-to-day work of our people.

We’re investing significantly in modernising our connectivity platforms across campus, data centre, security, and cloud environments. We’re looking for a senior engineer who can help deliver that change safely, predictably, and to a consistently high technical standard — while supporting an environment where people feel respected, included, and well-informed.

This is a role for someone who enjoys complex delivery, values engineering quality, and wants their work to have real impact.

As Senior Connectivity Engineer – Platform Delivery, you will combine deep hands-on networking expertise with strong technical delivery leadership.

You will play a key role in delivering upgrades, refreshes, and migrations across:

Campus switching and wireless infrastructure

Network security platforms (firewalls, VPNs, segmentation)

Data centre and cloud connectivity

You will be trusted to:

Validate and challenge designs before they go live

Lead complex migrations and cutovers into production

Ensure changes are secure, resilient, and operationally ready

Communicate clearly with stakeholders so change is predictable and well understood

Coordinate internal teams and vendors to deliver outcomes with minimal disruption

This role is not responsible for setting connectivity strategy — but it is central to ensuring approved connectivity improvements are delivered safely, professionally, and with confidence.

Mōu | Who You Are

You are a senior connectivity engineer who combines technical credibility with calm, structured delivery leadership. You care about doing things well — and you understand that successful change is as much about people and communication as it is about technology.

You bring:

10+ years’ senior experience in large, complex network environments

Strong enterprise expertise across routing, switching, wireless, segmentation, and security platforms

Demonstrated delivery of significant upgrades, refreshes, or migrations into production

Confidence to independently assess technical designs and delivery quality

Experience coordinating delivery across multiple teams and vendors

Strong communication skills, including with non-technical stakeholders

Desirable:

Industry certifications (Cisco, Fortinet, Aruba, Juniper, Azure Networking, etc.)

Experience in tertiary or research-intensive environments

Exposure to managed service provider oversight

Familiarity with structured service management practices (e.g. ITIL)

We know that people don’t always meet every single requirement. If you have strong alignment with the role and bring relevant senior connectivity delivery experience, we encourage you to apply.

Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With

You will work closely with the connectivity technical team, security and infrastructure teams, and Digital Services leadership. You will also engage regularly with academic and professional stakeholders, external vendors, and managed service providers, acting as the technical delivery interface for connectivity change.
