The Senior Director of Development is a key member of the Development and Alumni Engagement Office, responsible for cultivating and sustaining relationships with donors and alumni to secure philanthropic support for Texas Southern University. This role plays a critical part in advancing the University’s fundraising priorities and ensuring long-term financial sustainability. The Senior Director of Development reports to the Executive Director of Development and may require travel to support donor engagement and stewardship.
Essential Duties Summary
Donor Relationship Management:
Develop and maintain strong, meaningful relationships with a portfolio of major donors, alumni and prospective supports, engaging them in the university’s mission and programs.
Fundraising Strategy:
Collaborate with leadership and fundraising colleagues to create and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies that align with university priorities, ensuring revenue goals are met. Fosters positive, lasting relationships through personal contact with donors that produce repeated and increased annual, major and planned gifts.
Project Research:
Identify and qualify five new potential major donors by conducting research and analysis to determine their philanthropic Interests and capacity to give to TSU In collaboration with the vice president of development monthly.
Proposal Development:
Prepare persuasive proposals, presentations, and reports tailored to Individual donors, to solicit gifts, highlighting the Impact of their contributions on the university’s Initiatives.
Stewardship:
Work with the Development Executive Director to implement effective stewardship plans to recognize and acknowledge donors for their support, ensuring their continued engagement and satisfaction with TSU.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the university leadership, faculty and staff to align fundraising efforts with academic and Institutional objectives.
Event Participation:
Attend and actively engage in university events, including alumni gatherings, donor receptions and fundraising campaigns, which may require travel, evenings, weekends and potential holiday work.
Data Management:
Work with Advancement Services Executive Director to maintain accurate and up-to-date donors in the university’s CRM system, tracking Interactions, gifts, solicitations, proposals, and progress toward fundraising goals.
Team Leadership:
Lead, support, and manage the Director of Development positions, partnering with them to guide day-to-day fundraising activities and goals, strengthen team performance, and ensure coordinated reporting and alignment with the Executive Director of Development.
