Senior Engagement Officer

Join UQ’s Faculty of Science as a Senior Engagement Officer and help build connections, curiosity and interest in Science. In this key role, you’ll work behind the scenes to plan and deliver an annual cycle of engagement initiatives for a variety of audiences, predominantly for prospective students. From coordinating events and high school engagement programs, to creating compelling communications, you’ll play a pivotal part in showcasing the Faculty’s strengths and building a pipeline of future students.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across the Faculty and UQ to implement strategies, drive impactful initiatives and events, and support the Faculty’s strategic goals. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Engagement and event management
    • Plan and deliver future student engagement initiatives and events and support a range of other engagement activities for a variety of audiences, ensuring alignment with Faculty and UQ strategies.
    • Contribute to developing and delivering an annual calendar of engagement activities.
    • Support the Faculty’s schools and centres in planning and delivering outreach and engagement activities.
    • Develop audience-focused, brand-compliant marketing, communications and presentations to support engagement activities and events.
    • Collect and maintain accurate data to support engagement evaluation and continuous improvement.
    • Monitor and report on outcomes, recommending improvements based on insights.
    • Maintain toolkits, templates, processes to support high-quality engagement delivery.
  • Stakeholder relationships
    • Build and maintain collaborative and positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders across UQ.
    • Identify opportunities to strengthen external partnerships and relationships that broaden and deepen engagement.
  • Some evening, early morning or weekend work required for key events (e.g. Open Day, careers markets, industry events).

    About You

    • Tertiary qualifications in marketing, events, business, or related field with at least 4 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and training.
    • Proven experience planning, delivering and evaluating evidence-backed engagement programs, activities and events.
    • Experience collecting and maintaining accurate data sources to support monitoring, evaluation, reporting and planning.
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Skilled in building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and collaborating to achieve strategic outcomes.
    • Experience creating marketing content, collateral and presentations, with the ability to simplify complex information for target audiences.
    • Highly organised with initiative, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
    • Proficient with digital tools, including MS Office, event/marketing platforms, CRM databases, and Adobe suite.
    • Experience in a university, government or other large, complex organisation (desirable).

    The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia and education check.
