About This Opportunity
The Senior Engagement Officer plays a pivotal role in advancing the ATSIS Unit’s commitment to increasing the recruitment, retention and success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at UQ. In this impactful role, you will inspire the next generation by promoting UQ as a university of choice, delivering engaging outreach programs and working closely with schools, communities and prospective students.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Plan and deliver engagement activities, events and communications that promote pathways to higher education.
- Coordinate communications, logistics and delivery of engagement programs and outreach initiatives.
- Provide guidance and support to prospective students and participants in the InspireU Scholars program.

About You
Genuine Occupational Requirement: The University of Queensland considers that to perform this role; it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) and section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth).
The position is therefore only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants.
The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
- Strong cultural capability and the ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, communities and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of secondary and tertiary education pathways and factors impacting Indigenous student participation and success.
- Experience delivering programs, events or engagement activities that support student outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and engage with students, schools, parents and community groups.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate activities successfully.
- A current and unrestricted driver’s licence and willingness to travel as required.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check and blue card check.
