The Student Involvement and Traditions (SIT) Office at Carnegie Mellon University consists of experienced professionals with an outstanding ability to: cultivate relevant, one-to-one mentoring relationships with exceptional students; deeply influence the growth and development of the leaders of tomorrow; craft unique experiences building on the talents of a diverse, multifaceted community; and contribute to our Student Affairs Division whose cornerstone is a deep, sustained dedication to the ongoing care of its students.
We are searching for a Senior Financial Administrator to join our dynamic team. Engaging with students as they interact with our department, you will serve as a primary point of contact and specialist in all financial management and financial advising areas. You will have the exciting opportunity to forge university-wide relationships with colleagues across a broad array of departments as you support the ~$5 million in spending that occurs each year by our 350 student organizations, our student government branches, and Fraternity and Sorority Life chapters.
We are seeking candidates who are excited to work directly with students, and to support them as they practice and develop confidence in their skills. The Senior Financial Administrator must thrive in a high-volume environment and strive to provide first-rate service and support to diverse students, colleagues, and external constituents.
Core responsibilities include:
- Work closely with, and direct, student organizations regarding financial policies and protocols, budget development/management, and purchasing procedures.
- Coordinate annual requirements and ongoing training content for student organization leaders.
- Conduct monthly, semesterly and annual analysis of student organization accounts.
- Process and/or oversee processing of financial transactions for student organizations including purchase orders, journal entries, redistributions, credit card verifications, etc.
- Supervise two direct reports including monitoring team workflow.
- Serve as approver for all student organization procurement cards and expense reimbursements.
- Ensure accuracy of data in the online financial tool (TartanConnect) used by student organizations and communicate timely information and reminders.
- Manage yearly student activities fee allocation and movement between accounts in accordance with Student Government fiscal policy.
- Directly partner with Student Affairs finance team in training, financial troubleshooting, sponsorships and donations, processing support, and more.
- Advocate for, develop and implement innovative approaches to support financial processing for student organizations.
- Communicate directly with individuals and business vendors to determine method and requirements for payment including contracts for service, payroll appointments, and financial paperwork.
- In partnership with the Student Affairs finance staff, liaise with Finance, Procurement, Insurance, University Contracts, Enterprise Risk Management, and other departments to ensure compliance with all applicable university standards, policies, and requirements.

You should demonstrate:
- Application of analytical, budgeting, business, organizational, supervisory, and problem-solving skills
- A desire to work closely with a diverse student body on a regular basis though education, training, and financial support
- Ability to interact with a variety of internal partners and external customers
- Proven track record to champion an innovative and collaborative work environment
- Proven problem solving and reasoning skills, analytical skills, and oral, written, and interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration required; master's degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience in finance and business administration with demonstrated knowledge of accounting practices required
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered
- Proficiency in Oracle or equivalent financial system
- High level of proficiency in Excel
- Experience with data visualization tools including but not limited to PowerBI or Excel4Apps is strongly preferred
- Previous supervision experience is preferred

- Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity. Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
- Work Posture: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule in accordance with the university's guidelines.
