Position Highlights

The James E. Rogers College of Law's Financial Aid and Scholarships team is seeking candidates for a Senior Financial Aid Specialist (Financial Aid Professional III). This individual will play a vital role in maximizing student recruitment and retention. They will need to interpret financial aid regulations (institutional, state, and federal), and implement procedures to ensure regulatory and fiduciary compliance and timely delivery of financial aid. The Senior Financial Aid Specialist manages all aspects of financial aid administration including planning, implementing, and communicating awarding policies; determines students' level of need and eligibility for financial aid; partners with internal and external partners to strategically allocate funds and maintain institutional reporting requirements; oversees scholarship postings; and assists students from pre-enrollment through post-graduation loan repayment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Primary contact for College of Law students, prospective students and applicants in person, via e-mail, mail, and telephone regarding financial aid information/eligibility.
  • Organizes, prepares, facilitates and presents information to applicants, students, and others with an interest in financing a legal education.
  • Plans, processes, awards, reevaluates, and compiles reports of financial aid for the students enrolled in the College of Law.
  • Collects and/or analyzes financial data on students to determine aid eligibility under the federal need analysis and processes financial aid reevaluation requests independently using professional judgment permitted under federal guidelines.
  • Awards financial aid packages to students enrolled in College of Law post-graduate programs.
  • Reviews and evaluates documentation to ensure compliance with government rules and regulations.
  • Carefully monitors over awards, under awards, and other discrepancies that require professional judgment.
  • Reviews disbursement reports, federal student aid reports, and collects and compiles data for financial aid indebtedness for accreditation agency reporting, or other units by request of the Dean's Office.
  • Prepare and conduct required entrance/exit counseling sessions and on-going, longitudinal debt management sessions in accordance to accreditation standard requirements.
  • Interacts and maintains liaison with college and university staff, faculty, and outside agencies such as student loan lenders and servicers, guarantee agencies, military services, and other agencies in resolving problems/issues for students with these entities, and in facilitating program objectives.
  • Liaison for PeopleSoft (UAccess) system changes, issues and updates for the Office of Student Financial Aid COL. Assists in quality control of computer system procedures and reports and assists in testing. Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
