James Cook University is seeking an experienced Senior Internal Auditor to join the University within its internal audit function.

The position provides a unique opportunity to work closely with the Manager, contribute to continuity of leadership, and support the ongoing maturity of JCU’s internal audit, assurance and governance frameworks.

  • Full-time (36.25 hours per week)
  • Fixed term to January 2027
  • Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas
  • HEWL 9: $130,115 - $137,625 per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits
  • Relocation assistance may be negotiated.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Manager, Internal Audit, the Senior Internal Auditor will deliver complex, high-quality assurance and advisory engagements across financial, operational, compliance and information systems. The role also contributes to the development and delivery of the Internal Audit Strategy and Annual Work Plan, supports engagement with senior stakeholders, and helps strengthen risk management, internal controls and continuous improvement across the University.

This appointment is well suited to an accomplished internal audit professional who is seeking exposure to enterprise-level governance, Council-level reporting, and strategic assurance work within a large, complex organisation.

While the role is fixed term in nature, there may be opportunities to express interest in future roles as they arise. Any opportunities would be subject to the Universities Policies and Procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

We are seeking a highly qualified internal audit professional with relevant postgraduate qualifications and professional certification (CIA, CISA, CPA, CA or equivalent), and extensive experience delivering complex, risk-based audits within large organisations. You will bring strong analytical and problem-solving capability, confidence using audit management and data analytics tools, and excellent communication skills to clearly convey findings, build trusted relationships, and produce high-quality reports. You will also demonstrate the highest standards of professional integrity and a commitment to continuous improvement.
