Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Education - Disability and Inclusion

Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Wānanga Toi Tangata Division of Education invites applications for an exciting opportunity to lead our Master of Disability and Inclusion Studies. This role offers a unique chance to shape social change in the field of disability and inclusion through research and teaching across the breadth of our education programmes. We are particularly interested in applicants who can also contribute to special education within our Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes.

We are seeking a dynamic individual who brings both professional and academic experience, and who will become part of a team committed to excellence in teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain and further develop original scholarship and research, while also engaging in professional, community, and iwi service activities relevant to disability and inclusion.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, your well-defined programme of research will play a key role in advancing research capacity, fostering strategic cross- and inter-disciplinary research initiatives, and building meaningful community engagement. You will demonstrate a strong record of academic leadership, including mentorship, guidance, encouragement, and support for other academic staff as they pursue their academic objectives and grow their professional careers.

The level of appointment will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. The salary range is $113,428 to $148,799 per year for a Senior Lecturer, or $150,661 to $166,176 per year for an Associate Professor. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), based at our Hamilton Campus.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD and bring a strong passion for, and expertise in, disability and inclusion studies. You will demonstrate a clear commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and show an understanding of how your research can enhance both professional practice and community outcomes. You will also be expected to have a record of research and scholarship excellence at both national and international levels, along with proven excellence in teaching and a successful track record of postgraduate supervision within the broad discipline of Human Development.
