SoMS delivers teaching into a variety of programs, including Science, Medical Science, and several professional degrees such as the Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dental Medicine. Our teaching also spans a diverse range of Majors, including Anatomy and Histology, Immunology, Neuroscience, and Physiology.

We are seeking a Senior Lecturer to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation while continuing to build their research contribution, expertise, and impact within their discipline. This position will be focused on individuals with a background in gastrointestinal or respiratory physiology, and broader aspects of human physiology from both a research and teaching perspective. The role involves applying your learnings through research and scholarly activity to inform your education and research practice and contributing to the strategic and academic goals of the school or faculty.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• build and maintain a reputation for academic excellence through independent and innovative contributions to research and education, expanding knowledge and practice in the discipline
• establish collaborations and partnerships to enhance the research profile and reputation of the university
• coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences, including supervising higher degree research students to successful completion
• coordinate, develop and continually improve curricula, programs and resources to enhance teaching and learning outcomes
• coordinate activities of academic staff and provide training and mentorship to less experienced staff
• provide leadership that has a significant impact on teaching, innovation, curriculum development, research training and supervision
• contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
• undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.

About you

• Doctorate or PhD and professional qualifications in physiology (or equivalent)
• significant experience in teaching and learning, with a focus on the areas of gastrointestinal physiology and/or respiratory physiology (or a closely-related area), with a demonstrated capacity to teach and drive curriculum development of these topics for undergraduate and postgraduate programs
• experience in education design and practice
• significant experience conducting original research and/or engaging in scholarly activity relevant to their field, including success in securing research funding
• experience supervising and mentoring others, including Honours and/or PhD students
• have, or be building, an established network of academic, industry and/or professional partners and stakeholders
• have a national reputation as influential in expanding knowledge, pedagogical innovation, or curriculum development
• skills in research, critical thinking and decision making, planning and organisation, and delivering presentations effectively
• ability to communicate effectively to a diverse cohort of students and staff
• excellent collegiality across teaching and research.
