Overview

The position is within Child Culture Design at the Design Unit of HDK-Valand. The program emphasizes children’s perspectives in design, integrating artistic practice, interdisciplinary knowledge (psychology, sociology, education), and research. Teaching and research focus on play, development, culture, health, and design artefacts for children.

Duties

• Teaching at undergraduate (Swedish) and second-cycle/master’s (English) levels
• Planning, leading lectures, seminars, discussions, and practical projects
• Supervising students and supporting assignments and practical work
• Participating in cross-program modules like “Design Studies” and “Design Research”
• Conducting research in Child Culture Design and related areas
• Administrative work within the department and faculty as required
• Professional development per University of Gothenburg guidelines

Qualification Requirements

• Education: PhD in a relevant subject
• Teaching: Experience at higher-education level, clear communication skills
• Language: Proficiency in English; Swedish recommended for collaboration (language support offered)
• Other: Experience with practice relevant to Child Culture Design, play, and children’s development

Assessment Criteria

Scientific Expertise:

• Publications relevant to the subject
• Experience in research project development
• Project leadership in child culture, preferably with external collaboration
• Recognition in professional contexts
• Practice-based experience in design for children

Teaching Expertise:

• Experience in teaching at higher-education level
• Ability to communicate subject knowledge clearly and engagingly

Other:

• English proficiency (spoken and written)
• Completion of university teaching courses within two years if not already done
• Personal suitability and ability to contribute positively to the department
