Senior Lecturer in Drama

Step into a role where your creative vision and scholarly expertise take centre stage. The School of Communication and Arts is seeking a Senior Lecturer (Level C) in Drama to join a collaborative, future-focused academic community that values both artistic practice and critical inquiry.

In this role, you will demonstrate expertise in directing and dramaturgy. You will also bring a defined area of theatre studies specialism (for example, early modern or twentieth-century theatre), alongside broad canonical knowledge and the ability to teach across the curriculum, including foundational survey courses and practice-led subjects.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Teaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.
• Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, use best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
• Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, ensure that supervisees are provided with appropriate training in relation to research integrity and ethics policies, support the skills and career development of supervisees, undertake relevant supervisory training and development opportunities.
• Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, engage with external stakeholders and partners, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

Applicants should possess a PhD in Drama or a related field. Additionally, you will demonstrate:

• Expertise in directing and dramaturgy.
• A specialisation in a defined area of theatre studies (for example, early modern or twentieth-century theatre), alongside broad canonical knowledge and the ability to teach across the curriculum, including foundational survey courses and practice-led subjects.
• An established profile in teaching with evidence of high-quality university teaching at different levels (undergraduate, honours, postgraduate) across a variety of settings.
• Extensive experience leading/coordinating courses and contributing to the development and innovation of curricula and course material.
• Demonstrated experience supervising honours and Higher Degree Research students to completion.
• A sustained track record of publication, the ability to conceive and execute a mid to long term research agenda and demonstration of successful pursuit of a research agenda.
• Evidence of obtaining and managing external research funding as appropriate within the field.
• Experience in internal service roles and an established profile of professional expertise that complements the School.
