Senior Lecturer in Indigenous Health
This is a full-time position, optional as part-time (0.5 FTE) x 2 continuing, providing support and guidance for Indigenous students in the Doctor of Medicine program. Located at Camperdown campus with occasional travel to Dubbo and Lismore. Salary: Academic Level B Base $127,436 - Level C Base $156,103 + 17% superannuation, with loading as appropriate based on clinical experience.
This is a Targeted Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Position. Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.
About the opportunity: The University of Sydney values Indigenous ways of knowing and being. The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program has approximately 220 Commonwealth Supported Places annually. The role aims to attract, support, and graduate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors. There are currently 22 Indigenous students enrolled in the MD.
The primary role is to contribute to teaching and learning in the MD Program and provide support for Indigenous students.
- Participate in educational activities related to Indigenous Health in the MD curriculum.
- Provide support for Indigenous students across the 4 years of the program at Camperdown campus and metropolitan clinical schools.
- Participate in peer support with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
- Identify and engage key stakeholders in the community, including Aboriginal Medical Services and Local Health Districts, through meetings and surveys.
- Develop and grow relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Travel to Dubbo and Lismore campuses as required.
- Act as a role model, offering mentoring and guidance to Indigenous students.
About you: You must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander with a passion for Aboriginal culture, health, history, and change. Evidence of strong links and respect within local communities is required. An allied health or medical background, or experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, is desirable. You should have experience in teaching and learning, strong collaboration skills, knowledge of higher education issues, and excellent communication skills. Proven practical experience working within local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities is essential.
