About the role

Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training (KCRMT) is a Commonwealth funded, end-to-end rural medical program based on the University’s Broome campus. KCRMT is one of the components that forms the University’s RHMT program which sits within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery and Health Sciences. This position performs teaching of the Pre-clinical and/or Clinical years curriculum. The role reports to and assists the Professorial Chair of the KCRMT program. The role reports to either the KCRMT Foundation Years Coordinator or Clinical Years Coordinator who provide administrative oversight of the KCRMT pathway.

Key Responsibilities

  • Te ach in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) curriculum in the pre-clinical and/or clinical years of the KCRMT MD program in clinical and/or non-clinical settings/attachments.
  • Support the development and delivery of Problem Based Learning (PBL), Clinical Skills and other relevant tutorials.
  • Conduct tutorials, practical classes, labs, demonstrations, and clinical sessions.
  • Provide academic pastoral care to the medical students in conjunction with the Foundation Years Coordinator (KCRMT), Clinical Years Coordinator (KCRMT) and the Head of Student Matters.
  • Provide assistance with the development and implementation of student assessments, examinations and markings.
  • Attendance at KCRMT, School of Medicine, and Broome campus meetings.
  • Mentor medical students in rural and remote health research.

Qualifications, skills & experience

Lecturer Level B

A Level B Academic Employee is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution and to carry out activities to maintain and develop their scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline. You will have qualifications and/or experience recognised by the institution as appropriate for the relevant discipline area. In many cases a position at this level will require a doctoral or masters qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing. In determining experience relative to

  • Possession of a medical or professional health degree registrable with AHPRA is highly desirable, not mandatory.
  • Experience in teaching at in the Higher Education sector.
  • Experience in the delivery of and developing skills of tutors in the delivery of medical education or in a tertiary institution.
  • Understanding of and ideally experience in the application of Problem-Based Learning in the delivery of a medical curriculum.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching medical students in clinical and/or non-clinical settings, and experience in pastoral care of students
  • Demonstrated commitment to pastoral care of students.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management qualities.
  • A passion for Indigenous health.
  • A passion for rural and remote health promotion.

Senior Lecturer Level C

A Level C Academic Employee is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of a department, school, faculty or other organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area. An Academic at this level is also expected to play a major role in scholarship, research and/or professional activities . In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard will be had to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or technical achievement. In addition a position at this level will normally require a record of demonstrable scholarly and professional achievement in the relevant discipline area.

  • Possess advanced qualifications and/or recognised significant experience in the relevant discipline area.
  • Possess a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing.
  • Experience in teaching at in the Higher Education sector.
  • Experience in the delivery of and developing skills of tutors in the delivery of medical education or in a tertiary institution
  • Understanding of and ideally experience in the application of Problem-Based Learning in the delivery of a medical curriculum.
