Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in the School of Biomedical Engineering

Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in the School of Biomedical Engineering (Ref.: 533478) to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

We are seeking a developing or emerging professional leader who will push the boundaries of the biomedical engineering field through innovative, high-impact research. The appointee will design and teach engaging courses in biomedical engineering across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, inspiring the next generation of leaders while advancing knowledge in this field.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree, or preferably a doctoral degree, in biomedical engineering (BME), biomedical sciences, biotechnology or a related discipline. A strong track record of teaching should be demonstrated including one or more of the following elements related to training in contemporary biomedical engineering:

  • Foundational BME courses
  • Project-based courses (including Final Year Projects)
  • BME summer training courses
  • Basic electrical and mechanical engineering (electricity and electronics, basics mechanics, robotics etc.)
  • Fundamental Biology & Chemistry (molecular biology, biomaterials, tissue engineering);
  • Artificial intelligence & Data Science related to biomedicine (machine learning, computational modeling, digital health etc.)
  • Interfacing Engineering with Clinical Medicine (linking biomedical, mechanical, and electrical engineering together with clinical disciplines such as orthopaedics, ophthalmology, surgery, radiology, neurology and others)

They could also form a team to establish new elements of “active learning” or “student-directed learning” in BME curriculum – focusing on design thinking, from identifying gaps and opportunities in the need area, to prototyping and proof of concept testing.

Applicants are expected to be dedicated educators who have strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to work independently and as a team, and be able to multi-task. Expertise in teaching hands-on prototyping/projects in BME makerspaces is a plus. Candidates with relevant industry experience are encouraged to apply. The position offered depends on level of expertise and years of teaching experience – at least 10 years for Senior Lecturer and 3 years for Lecturer. Those with less experience may be considered for appointment as Assistant Lecturer.

The appointee will be responsible for teaching, conducting tutorials and demonstrations, supporting curriculum design, and developing teaching materials, which can also include hands-on, project-based, and active learning courses for undergraduate students. He/She will work closely with a team of colleagues dedicated to the development and delivery of innovative pedagogical approaches to improve student learning process in undergraduate degree programme and BME-related extracurricular activities.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary for Senior Lecturer/Lecturer, or up to 10% of basic salary for Assistant Lecturer. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable for Senior Lecturer.

The University only accepts online application for the above posts. Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V. together with a teaching statement. Review of applications will start on December 22, 2025 and continue until April 22, 2026, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
