Senior Lecturer - Music

Role Summary

Senior Lecturers at LCCM are experienced educators and industry practitioners who combine academic expertise with active professional practice. They contribute to an outstanding student experience through innovative teaching, rigorous assessment, curriculum design, and strong engagement with industry. Senior Lecturers also play a key role in ensuring academic quality and supporting the effective management of programmes within their subject area.

Key responsibilities

Learning, Teaching and Assessment

  • Deliver inclusive, engaging, and industry-relevant teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate modules.
  • Act as module leader in specialist areas, with responsibility for developing, maintaining, and updating curriculum content.
  • Design, set, and assess coursework and examinations in line with institutional standards, ensuring fairness, transparency, and accuracy.
  • Provide academic guidance, tutorials, and pastoral support, fostering strong student/tutor relationships.
  • Embed employability, professional practice, and industry skills within teaching and assessment.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of teaching methods, assessment strategies, and learning resources across the programme.

Quality Assurance and Enhancement

  • Produce module reports, contribute to Annual Monitoring Reports, and assist with Quality Improvement Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with module specifications, programme standards, and external quality frameworks.
  • Participate in assessment boards, programme committees, and internal/external reviews.
  • Support ongoing curriculum review, enhancement, and future portfolio planning.
  • Promote best practice in equality, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within teaching and assessment.

Programme and Module Management

  • Support the Programme Leader in maintaining a high-quality student experience across the subject area.
  • Provide operational oversight of module teams, including coordination of teaching delivery and assessment processes.
  • Contribute to the production of accurate programme and module documentation (e.g., module guides, handbooks).
  • Collaborate with administrative and academic colleagues to ensure effective timetabling, programme delivery, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Line Management: Coordination and support of module teams/tutors as required

Industry and External Engagement

  • Maintain professional credibility through ongoing practice in the music or creative industries.
  • Develop and sustain links with employers, professional bodies, and industry partners to enhance student learning and career opportunities.
  • Contribute to the visibility and reputation of LCCM through industry engagement, networking, and participation in external events.
  • Represent the programme at internal and external events, including awards ceremonies, showcases, and promotional activities.

Student Recruitment and Outreach

  • Support student recruitment through participation in Open Days, auditions, interviews, and external events.
  • Promote the programme and subject area to prospective students, schools, colleges, and relevant networks.
  • Contribute to marketing and outreach initiatives to raise the profile of LCCM and attract a diverse student body.

Professional Development

  • Engage with continuing professional development (CPD) to remain current in pedagogy, subject expertise, and industry practice.
  • Share good practice with colleagues and contribute to staff development activities.
  • Actively participate in internal training, peer observation, and reflective practice.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential :

  • Degree in a relevant subject area.
  • Significant experience in higher education teaching within the relevant subject area.
  • Active professional practice and networks within the music/creative industries.
  • Strong track record of curriculum design, teaching innovation, and assessment.
  • Commitment to student-centred learning, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Experience of academic administration, quality assurance, and programme delivery

Desirable :

  • Teaching qualification (or willingness to achieve) desirable.
  • Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (or willingness to achieve).
  • Experience of supervising student research or creative projects.
  • Evidence of contribution to academic publications, industry output, or applied research.
