About This Opportunity

The University of Queensland is seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Senior Manager - Privacy and Information Access to play a pivotal leadership role within our Governance and Risk Division.

In this influential position, you will be the process owner and subject matter expert for UQ’s privacy and information access frameworks, including right to information. You’ll lead the strategic direction, implementation, and continuous improvement of these critical regimes, ensuring UQ continues to uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical data stewardship.

As a trusted expert, you will also manage and determine complex privacy complaints and right to information applications, providing high-level advice and decisive guidance on matters with significant institutional impact.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Governance and Policy, you’ll operate with broad autonomy and the scope to shape university-wide policy, influence culture, and drive meaningful change. You will join a supportive team deeply committed to best practice governance and a university that values integrity, innovation, and community.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage UQ’s privacy, right to information and information access functions, ensuring high-quality service delivery, compliance and effective administrative processes across the University.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators and internal/external stakeholders, ensuring UQ meets required standards and engages effectively across key networks.
  • Provide expert, risk-based strategic advice, policy oversight and system management to support best-practice privacy and information access frameworks.
  • Oversee reporting, tracking and analysis of privacy enquiries, breaches, complaints and information access applications, driving continuous improvement and a strong client-service culture.
  • Lead team capability through ongoing training, mentoring and development, and deliver education programs to enhance University-wide understanding of privacy and information access obligations.

About You

  • ​Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline and equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training, professional accreditation and qualification.
  • Significant relevant experience in a privacy and information access leadership position in a large and complex organisation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and a solid understanding of best practice privacy and information access processes, management and systems.
  • Practical experience in the provision of management guidance, training and expert advice.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships, communicate, network and consultant with key stakeholders, including senior executives.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and complete tasks by managing priorities within defined timeframes.
  • Highly independent worker with demonstrated personal responsibility in meeting objectives, including the ability to recognise and resolve issues impacting on the achievement of required outcomes.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check.
