About This Opportunity

The Senior Principal, IT Portfolio Management Office leads the development and implementation of strategic portfolio management projects that ensure technology investments are governed and aligned with the University’s strategic objectives. This role establishes and uplifts project portfolio projects, processes and planning artefacts to support transparent decision-making, effective resource allocation and enterprise-wide value delivery.

Working closely with senior stakeholders, the position provides expert guidance on portfolio planning, investment prioritisation and performance reporting, while driving continuous improvement in portfolio governance and maturity across the organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development and implementation of project portfolio management tools, processes and governance to support strategic alignment and investment decisions
  • Manage technical projects to support the implementation of the IT Gated process by uplifting the current toolset
  • Provide expert advice to project and business stakeholders on project setup, delivery frameworks, governance and portfolio integration
  • Develop and maintain portfolio artefacts including roadmaps, dashboards and reporting to improve visibility, decision-making and performance tracking
  • Support continuous improvement of portfolio management practices, including process optimisation, stakeholder engagement and maturity uplift initiatives

About You

You are an experienced portfolio or project professional with a strong background in governance, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement within complex environments. You bring a structured, analytical approach and the ability to influence and guide stakeholders to deliver aligned, high-value outcomes. You have proven ability to lead technical projects while ensuring stakeholder engagement.

You will demonstrate:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in IT, project management or a related field (or equivalent experience and education)
  • Significant experience delivering or supporting portfolio management, project governance or strategic planning within large, complex organisations
  • Proven experience leading or supporting business process redesign, change initiatives or strategy implementation
  • Strong experience in project delivery frameworks (e.g. waterfall), including governance, reporting, risk and issue management
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, influence and manage stakeholders at all levels, including holding teams accountable and resolving delivery challenges
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex environments and recommend practical improvements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present and negotiate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure and deliver outcomes in dynamic environments
