Senior Research Commercialisation Manager (Science & Engineering)
The role
The University of Bristol has an outstanding record in the commercialisation of research, consistently ranking as one of the best in the UK. The University’s refreshed strategy sets out ambitions to build upon this success and increase our contribution to a dynamic and exciting local innovation ecosystem. The Research Commercialisation team is instrumental to this, and we work closely with research teams, commercial experts, industry partners and investors to drive the commercialisation of world-class research towards impact.
We are now looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial individual to join our team to lead on the commercialisation of projects across Physical Sciences and Engineering through spin-out creation and licensing technologies to existing companies.
What will you be doing?
You will take a lead role on the commercialisation research arising from the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University. You will be working on a range of exciting technologies arising from our world-class research base, supporting and directing their de-risking and then leading on partnering these opportunities with existing companies or building new spin-out companies to help accelerate them towards impactful outcomes. You will do this by identifying and protecting intellectual property; evaluating commercial potential; devising development and commercialisation plans, supporting fundraising from investors and grant awarders; marketing technologies; negotiating deal terms; and drafting agreements to underpin technology commercialisation.
You will work with a variety of key stakeholders including academics, commercial experts, industry partners and equity investors to enhance delivery of research commercialisation and to promote commercialisation opportunities and successes. You will also lead a small team of Research Commercialisation Managers.
You should apply if
- You want to help drive the development of a broad portfolio of exciting Physical Science and Engineering innovations through to new venture creation or licensing.
- You have the ability to critically examine complex research and assess optimum commercialisation strategies, and have knowledge and skills in intellectual property, business planning, technology marketing, negotiation, and communication.
- You have a strong and demonstrable track record of commercialisation deals via new venture creation and IP licensing
- You will have a degree in a relevant subject and ideally a PhD or RTTP designation (Registered Technology Transfer Professional) or equivalent work experience.
- You will be a driven team player with developed interpersonal skills.
Benefits of working for the University include:
- 32 days of annual leave per year plus bank holidays
- Automatic entry to an extremely generous pension scheme, with more than 20% employer contributions
- Hybrid working environment
- Inclusive culture, valuing the diversity of thought, beliefs and background
If you are passionate about realising impact arising from the cutting-edge research being undertaken by world leading scientists in one of UK’s most vibrant cities, then we’d be interested in hearing from you.
