Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow (Elements and Isotopes) to join Research Infrastructure, Research Portfolio, Academic Division.
The Senior Research Fellow (Elements and Isotopes) is responsible for academic leadership of the Elements and Isotopes Laboratory as well as support of day-to-day operations of the facilities and its services in CARF. Experience working in a multi-user facility is valued. The appointee will have a detailed technical understanding of the use of ICPMS for a range of sample types (liquids and solids) and will have a research track record using these technologies. Beyond engagement with users, and supplying information or products around their research needs, the Senior Research Fellow will undertake independent research especially concerning the capabilities of the instrumentation itself. The Senior Research Fellow is responsible for liaising and interacting with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including QUT academics, professional staff and students as well as clients from external organisations. The appointee will actively seek research funding from government agencies and commercial companies interested in CARF services, especially ICPMS and other microanalytical techniques, and will work in close partnership with allied CARF laboratories such as Sample Preparation and Xray.
About us
QUT is a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus. We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world.
Research Infrastructure includes the university’s Central Analytical Research Facility (CARF). CARF hosts a range of characterisation, analysis and ‘omics’ capabilities, underpinned by $30M of cutting-edge technologies in microscopy, mass spectrometry and sequencing, to name a few. These capital investments are effectively leveraged with a dedicated team of research fellows, specialists and technologists, circa 40 FTE. CARF is predominantly located within the Science and Engineering Centre with additional nodes at the Gardens Point campus and distributed sites. The Faculty of Science hosts the Schools most likely to support the candidate’s expertise, in particular Chemistry and Physics, and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. The candidate will report to the Head of School regarding workload contributions toward classroom teaching and HDR supervision.
What you need to succeed
