Led by Professor Sir Peter Horby, ERGO is an internationally recognised clinical research group focused on emerging and epidemic infections. The group undertakes clinical epidemiology, diagnostic and pathogenesis studies, and clinical trials, and plays a coordinating and collaborative role in major international research programmes including ISARIC, HPRU-EZI, UK-PHRST and ECRAID. Reporting to Professor Sir Peter Horby, you will lead a specialist grant-funded research programme contributing to the scientific direction and outputs of the wider group.

You will lead a programme of research on acute respiratory infections, formulating and refining research questions within a defined area of the wider scientific theme. You will have an established (inter)national reputation with a strong publication record, experience managing research budgets and securing grant funding, and the ability to lead and motivate a research team. Extensive experience working in low- and middle-income settings, a sound understanding of research ethics, Good Clinical Practice and research governance frameworks, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. You must demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage complex organisational and collaborative environments.
