  • Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting is desirable.
  • Some supervisory experience is preferred.

Job Competencies

  • Ability to identify, solicit, cultivate, and steward volunteers, donors, and/or prospects with the potential to give $1,000 to $1 million+.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and planning skills with the ability to conceive, propose, execute, and evaluate short- and long-term plans that support the activities of the program and contribute to the overall goals of the Advancement Division. The ability to handle and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks is essential.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with proven ability to collaborate and build positive rapport with varied constituencies professionally; clarity, professionalism, and diplomacy in written and oral communication skills; and comfort interacting with individuals of considerable social status and affluence.
  • Proficiency with online and Windows software, such as or similar to Google Mail and calendaring, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database software.
  • Ability to apply good judgment and responsible decision-making; tact and discretion are required to deal with highly confidential parent, student, family, donor, and prospect information.
  • Must be a detail-oriented self-starter who is comfortable working independently as well as part of a close-knit team that values creativity, a sense of humor, energy, and positivity.
  • Must demonstrate the core values of the Brown Development Office: integrity, excellence, collaboration, collegiality, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to personal growth.
  • Must be willing and able to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed. Minimal travel is required, though opportunities for occasional travel may exist.
