Senior Technical Officer / Technical Officer (25260527)

The School of Creative Arts (SCA) is comprised of three well-established academic units, namely the Academy of Film, Academy of Music, and Academy of Visual Arts. Our distinguished faculty includes experts from different arts disciplines who are dedicated to high-quality teaching, high-impact research and creative work, and pioneering professional development.The Academy of Film (http://af.hkbu.edu.hk) is dedicated to providing cinematic arts and creative media education to cultivate talented professionals capable of contributing to Hong Kong's arts and cultural industries. The Academy of Film includes the following areas: film and media studies, film and television production, script writing, post-production, and acting for global screen.We are seeking highly motivated and experienced individuals for the position of Senior Technical Officer/ Technical Officer.

The appointee is expected to provide technical support to Academy of Film.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support for classes, students and staff;
• Supervise and ensure the seamless daily operation of Extended Reality and Virtual Production Studios;
• Foster a positive, safe and inclusive studio environment;
• Operate and maintain VP/XR systems (Unreal, Disguise, LED walls, camera tracking), ensuring reliable performance;
• Create/adjust real-time content in Unreal; configure Disguise (Timeline, Notch, RenderStream);
• Set up, calibrate, and manage camera tracking (Mo-Sys/RedSpy), including data pipelines;
• Maintain and calibrate LED displays and monitor to shooting standards;
• Ensure system stability via networking and sync management (Genlock, high-speed switching, network configuration);
• Operate Bolt/G-Ka robotic arms (preferred) and provide technical support/training;
• Conduct equipment and facility demonstrations for classes and students;
• Provide technical support for Academy events and activities; and
• Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements:

• An advanced diploma in related discipline with at least 5 years of relevant work experience;
• Proficiency in Unreal (Blueprints, Sequencer, nDisplay) and Disguise operation/troubleshooting;
• Proficiency in RedSpy calibration and data transfer knowledge; understanding of calibration principles;
• Strong cinema camera literacy (aperture, shutter, ISO, color temperature) and effective communication with cinematographers;
• LED display maintenance and color calibration experience;
• Networking/system integration skills; confident with sync systems and high-throughput networks;
• Knowledge of Basic programming/scripting to automate workflows;
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently;
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills;
• A good team player; and
• Quick learner who is willing to work overtime and night shifts.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two years commencing as soon as possible. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.

Candidates with less experience will be considered as Assistant Technical Officer.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
