Overall Purpose of the Job
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Senior Technical Specialist to lead the Radioactive Waste Disposal and Environmental Remediation (RADER) National Nuclear User Facility and join our dynamic Faculty Technical Operations team, which strives to provide sector leading technical support for our students and staff. As a member of the faculty’s nuclear group, the postholder will primarily:
- Work closely with the NNUF RADER academic lead, academic staff, other Williamson Research Centre (WRC) technical staff, and science research project leads (internal or external as they arise), to ensure timely and successful delivery of research programmes within RADER.
- Manage the overall operation of the NNUF RADER facility on a day-to-day basis. Be the primary point of contact for NNUF RADER and be responsible for coordination, induction and training of users (including external users) with a wide range of abilities with respect to handling radioactive samples.
- Develop, operate and maintain user group communications to ensure smooth and safe running of the facility and top-down and bottom-up communications within NNUF RADER.
- Willingness to establish external links, collaborations, and networks with academic and industrial groups in the applied radiochemistry and nuclear sectors as opportunities arise.
- Have broad vision and a high level of scientific knowledge and training to further develop the capabilities of the NNUF RADER facilities and instrumentation to deliver world-leading outputs.
- Deliver the provision of appropriate support to allow compliant transport of radioisotope samples and material between facilities in Manchester, and external including internationally.
