Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Senior Technician, Client Technology to join Digital Business Solutions, Administrative Division.

The Senior Technician, Client Technology plays a pivotal role in delivering high-value, client-facing support across QUT’s staff and student environments. This role will troubleshoot hardware and software technical issues, maintain IT inventory records in the CMDB, and develop engaging Knowledge and How-To guides. You will provide expert advice, training, and guidance to staff and students, contributing to a positive and proactive IT support culture. The position will provide support across staff computing and learning environments, bringing your expertise in Windows, macOS, and Unix operating systems to the fore. The Senior Technician will manage a diverse software catalogue and a range of audio-visual, classroom, and teaching & learning technologies. You will assist in coordinating small digital projects and continual service improvement initiatives, driving innovation and efficiency within the university. Maintaining a client-centric approach, you will identify and document clients’ requirements, and ensure clear and effective communication with clients. The Senior Technician will also play a key role in supporting digital transformation initiatives and improving digital literacy across the university. Your proactive management of the university’s technology fleet will involve anticipating potential issues and implementing solutions before they impact users. You will foster a positive team culture, promoting knowledge sharing, collaboration, and mutual support among team members, while developing and maintaining thorough documentation for support processes and solutions. The work undertaken by this team is critical to driving business efficiencies. The appointee may be required to be contactable and/or work outside of standard business hours on occasion. These instances will be treated in accordance with the relevant provisions in the Enterprise Agreement for Professional Staff. This position reports to the Team Leader, Client Technology for career planning, development, and performance expectations.

What you need to succeed

1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to a degree in an IT related field with subsequent relevant experience.

2. Demonstrated experience in supporting Windows, macOS, and Unix operating systems, providing support to a diverse software catalogue, as well as contemporary knowledge and experience with audio-visual, classroom, and teaching & learning technologies.

3. Proven ability to maintain a client-centric approach, with strong skills in identifying and documenting clients’ requirements, excellent problem-solving abilities, and ensuring effective communication with clients.

4. Demonstrated experience in coordinating small IT projects and participating in continual service improvement initiatives, with the ability to proactively manage technology fleets and implement preventive solutions.

5. Strong understanding of ITIL processes and demonstrated experience in applying these principles in a complex environment, with the capability to develop and maintain thorough documentation for support processes and solutions.

6. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide expert advice, training, and guidance to staff and students, and experience in developing engaging Knowledge and How-To guides to enhance user understanding and efficiency.
