About the role

Join the University of Oxford at a pivotal moment as we open the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities—a landmark building designed to bring together world-class research, teaching, and cultural engagement. This state-of-the-art facility includes a Concert Hall, Theatre, Cinema, Black Box space, Exhibition Hall, Music Studios, and a Rehearsal Hall. As Senior Technician (Electrics), you will lead on the safe and effective delivery of technical services across our performance and public spaces, acting as the technical lead for lighting systems. You’ll work with cutting-edge equipment including a range of ETC and High End Systems lighting fixtures and working on ETC Ion XE control surfaces, supporting artists, productions, and events to deliver exceptional experiences.

In this role, you will take responsibility for managing and maintaining all in-house lighting equipment supporting in coming artists with their designs. A key part of the position involves mentoring junior staff and freelance crews, promoting best practices in lighting and electrical safety. You will also ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations, including LOLER and working at height standards, and contribute actively to planning, upgrades, and the ongoing technical development of the Centre.

About you

The ideal candidate will come with significant experience as a technician in live arts, music or events and excellent operational knowledge of a range of lighting, sound and AV systems. You must have extensive knowledge of electrical testing, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of lighting equipment, relevant Health and Safety regulation and current rigging and working at height practices. You will be a team player with experience of working with a variety of touring companies and corporate clients.

You must have excellent communications skills to liaise with a wide range of faculties, academics, visiting artists & companies, production companies, and technical teams. You will need the ability to positively influence the delivery of high standards of service and troubleshoot issues calmly under pressure.
