Service Coordinator - Oesper Museum and Library
Job Overview
The Service Coordinator for the Oesper History of Chemistry Museum and Library plays a vital role in supporting the museum and library operations. This position also contributes to the broader Science and Engineering Libraries (SEL) team. The Service Coordinator is a versatile professional responsible for managing daily operations, delivering public services, and assisting with the preservation, documentation, and promotion of specialized collections.
This position reports to the Associate Director of Operations, Science & Engineering Libraries. Functional and project supervision, as related to the work of the Oesper Museum & Library, from the Curator of the Oesper Museum and Collections.
Essential Functions
- Serve as the primary onsite staff presence during designated museum hours.
- Coordinate museum operations, including supply purchasing, facilities requests, and scheduling tours and visitors.
- Compile usage statistics and prepare reports on museum engagement and collections.
- Maintain museum displays and library stacks, including inventory, shifting, weeding, and routine upkeep.
- Support preservation and conservation workflows for museum and library materials.
- Promote the museum through creating promotional materials, guides, blog posts, and research resources; maintain signage, notice boards, and the museum website.
- Assist with physical and digital exhibits showcasing museum collections and broader SEL holdings.
- Collaborate on digitization projects, metadata creation, and digital object management, process and upload museum publications and research materials to repositories.
- Process new acquisitions for the museum and SEL collections; evaluate gift materials and make collection recommendations.
- Supervise student assistants supporting museum and collection activities.
- Supports SEL operational projects and serves as backup for service desk operations as needed.

Required Education
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Experience
One (1) year of program coordination experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered
- Master’s degree in library and information science, museum studies, or a related field.
- Knowledge and interest in the history of science and technology, particularly chemistry.
- Familiarity with library systems or digital repository platforms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with rare books or special collections.
- Familiarity with scientific terminology and a non-English language.

Salary/Hourly Pay Rate Information: $40,000 - $50,000
