Sessional Academics, School of Psychology and Counselling

Who are we looking for?

Sessional Academics contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning and support student success within the Faculty of Health. Sessional Academics are engaged to undertake a range of temporary, ad hoc or irregular teaching and learning work, which may include activities such as lecturing, tutoring, marking, workshops and more. 

Modes of work for Sessional Academics may vary, with some work activities requiring face-to-face instruction, online participation, or a mixture of both. Sessional academics may be engaged to work across QUT’s campuses or distributed sites.

Due to the ad hoc and/or intermittent nature of sessional academic work, there is no guarantee of continuous, ongoing, or regular employment. 

Roles and work engagements are negotiated between the sessional staff member and the unit coordinator or leader of the organisational area and may fluctuate throughout the academic year based on the needs of the faculty.

The School of Psychology and Counselling is looking to establish a pool of sessional academics who can support with learning and teaching across a broad range of study areas across the Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) in the following specialised areas:

  • Social and developmental psychology (e.g. PYB202, PYB203, PYB302)
  • Cognitive psychology (e.g. PYB204)
  • Counselling (e.g. PYB007, PYB208)
  • Neuropsychology (e.g. PYB102, PYB304)
  • Alcohol and Drug Studies (e.g. PYB159)
  • Forensic Psychology (e.g. PYB215)
  • Family Therapy (e.g. PYB356) and
  • Statistical analysis (e.g. PYB110, PYB210, PYB350)

What do you need to succeed?

Successful applicants will have the following:

  • Must possess a minimum 4-year qualification in psychology or related discipline.
  • Relevant industry experience in psychology or teaching experience is desired.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to undertake an induction to QUT and complete mandatory on-line training as required for all staff at QUT.
  • Ability to provide high quality and inclusive teaching to a diverse cohort of undergraduate students, including those who require learning adjustments and for culturally and linguistically diverse students
