II. Basic Requirements

1. Candidates shall demonstrate dedication to the profession, and possess strong teaching ethics, professional integrity, and a collaborative team spirit.
2. Academic excellence. Candidates shall possess profound academic attainments in the relevant discipline, recognized scholarly achievements at home and abroad, and a good reputation in the academic community. Applicants are required to have a comprehensive understanding of teaching, research, and industry trends in the field, with the capability to lead sustainable development and foster a first-class discipline. Candidates selected for national talent programs or those with significant international academic influence will be given priority.
3. Leadership and management capability. Candidates shall demonstrate strong organizational leadership, innovation, and responsibility, and possess rich experience in education and academic management, with the ability to implement scientific management, effective communication, coordination, and execution. Preference will be given to candidates who have held leadership positions in relevant departments of prestigious universities worldwide.
4. Candidates are required to hold a senior professional title (professor or equivalent) in the relevant discipline.

III. Term of Appointment and Remuneration

The initial appointment term is five years, including a one-year probationary period. During the appointment, the college will provide a competitive salary package, to be determined through negotiation. Eligible appointees may apply for inclusion in talent support programs of Guangdong Province and Shantou City, and, upon approval, will enjoy corresponding benefits. Those qualified under the Excellence Talent Program of Shantou University Medical College will also be entitled to relevant benefits.

On the southern coast of China, where the South China Sea meets a land of vitality and beauty, stands a young yet deeply rooted and dynamic institution—Shantou University Medical College. With the dedicated care and generous support of officials at all levels and Mr. Li Ka Shing, the college has leveraged its unique advantages, seized opportunities, and rapidly emerged as a rising force among China’s medical schools.

Shantou University Medical College is among the first universities in China selected for the National Excellence Physician Education and Training Program, and the first medical school in Guangdong Province to implement the 5+3 integrated clinical medicine program (bachelor–master continuum). It is also a key institution under Guangdong Province’s High-Level Key Discipline Development Program. The College currently offers three first-level doctoral degree programs, one second-level doctoral degree program, five first-level master’s degree programs, four professional master’s degree programs, and three postdoctoral research stations. The College hosts one national key discipline and four provincial key disciplines. Since 2012, its Clinical Medicine discipline has ranked consistently in the top 1% worldwide in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) and, as of March 2023, entered the top 0.3‰ globally. Additionally, the disciplines of Biology and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Pharmacology and Toxicology have all ranked in the global top 1% by ESI. In 2023, the disciplines of Clinical Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, and Pharmacy were ranked among the First-Class Disciplines in China.

Shantou University Medical College comprises six directly affiliated hospitals—the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College, Cancer Hospital of Shantou University Medical College, Shantou University Mental Health Center, Joint Shantou International Eye Center of Shantou University, and Hospital of Stomatology of Shantou University Medical College—along with nine clinical colleges, including Shenzhen Pediatric Clinical College, Luohu Clinical College, Yuebei Clinical College, Longgang Maternity and Child Institute, Peking University Shenzhen Clinical Institute, Meizhou Clinical College, Longgang Clinical College, Longgang Third Clinical College, and Bao’an Clinical College. The First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College is a designated institution under Guangdong Province’s “Peak Program” for High-Level Hospital Development and a key construction unit of Guangdong Province’s High-Level Clinical Medical Colleges. It is also among China’s first national standardized residency training bases and hosts the National General Practitioner Clinical Training Base (Eastern Guangdong).
