Media and Strategic Communications plays a central role in advancing UniSQ’s ambition to be Australia’s most transformative University. The team is responsible for shaping and protecting the University’s public narrative across media, social and digital channels, ensuring UniSQ is positioned as a trusted, influential voice in higher education and public discourse. Working closely with senior leaders, academics and professional staff, the team delivers strategic, creative storytelling that builds reputation, strengthens engagement and supports the University’s priorities.

Who you are

You are a creative and capable digital professional with a strong instinct for storytelling and a practical understanding of how content performs across platforms. You enjoy working closely with subject matter experts, can confidently create and publish day-to-day social content, and understand how social media contributes to brand, reputation and engagement in a complex organisation.

You are organised, responsive and curious, with a genuine interest in trends, audience behaviour, and storytelling. You’re comfortable balancing creativity with process and governance, and you take pride in producing work that reflects UniSQ’s values and standards.

What you'll do

The Social Media Officer plays a hands-on role in delivering UniSQ’s social media presence and supporting digital storytelling across the University. The role focuses on creating and publishing engaging digital content, capturing and editing photos and short-form video that showcase the student experience and reflect UniSQ’s values. You will contribute to broader digital storytelling for the University, including drafting short articles or feature-style content that amplify UniSQ’s research, student and community stories across UniSQ’s digital channels. You’ll actively monitor channels, responding to messages, comments and enquiries with professionalism, while identifying trends and contributing timely, creative content ideas. The role also supports social media coverage of events through live and behind-the-scenes content, maintains an organised library of approved assets and templates, and assists with scheduling, approvals and other coordination activities.

What will help you succeed

In this fast-paced environment, your ability to balance creativity with organisation and attention to detail will be critical. Along with your enthusiasm for digital storytelling, you will also bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in marketing, communications or a related discipline
  • Experience creating social media content, including copy, photography, and short-form video
  • Strong written communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear and engaging short-form digital content.
  • Confidence using social media platforms and tools such as Canva, Instagram Reels and TikTok
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours to support events and campaigns
  • An understanding of social media’s role in brand, marketing and student recruitment, ideally within a large or complex organisation
