Job Summary

The Observational Cosmology group in Caltech's Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy has recently completed the development of a new readout electronics module for large arrays of superconducting detectors based on the Xilinx RFSoC platform. The successful candidate will develop a software interface and integrate it with our existing Python analysis package. Applicants are expected to have a background in successfully developing software for astronomical, experimental physics, or electromechanical instrumentation.

The successful candidate will possess software knowledge spanning multiple applications and development models. They will maintain awareness of scientific and industry trends, are expected to gain understanding of Caltech research and business operations and effectively work in close collaboration with the project group.

Essential Job Duties

• Development and testing of a software interface and integrate it with an existing Python analysis package.
• Work collaboratively and supportively in team environments, sharing software development responsibilities and contributing toward software team objectives.
• Be aware of and comply with Institute policies, procedures, practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Interact regularly and effectively with internal project managers, senior engineering staff, faculty, students, and administrative professionals.

Basic Qualifications

• BS degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience with RFSoC-based readout systems for superconducting detectors.
• High proficiency in Python.
• Broad knowledge of experimental physics and multidisciplinary engineering principles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior Caltech experience.
