Description:

Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is pleased to invite applications for an approved one-year, full-time, non-tenure Special Assistant Professor position in the Department of Comparative Literature, Languages, and Linguistics at Hofstra University for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Department of Comparative Literature, Languages, and Linguistics welcomes applications in Greek and Roman Studies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • a 3/3 teaching load (9 sh fall/9 sh spring) in person, with the possibility of overload
  • planning classes in ancient Greek and Roman literature and culture in English translation
  • teaching classes in ancient Greek and Roman literature and culture in English translation
  • planning classes in Ancient Greek and Latin language at all levels
  • teaching classes in Ancient Greek and Latin language at all levels
  • placement assessments in Ancient Greek and Latin languages
  • advising majors and minors in the Greek and Roman Studies programs
  • attending department meetings as appropriate

Qualifications:

PhD in classical philology; ABD candidates are encouraged to apply and will be given serious consideration

At least two semesters within the past 5 years teaching college level, credit-bearing courses in Greek and Roman Studies literature and language courses

Candidates with demonstrated success teaching both ancient Greek and Latin will be given top priority
